Top tips for exploring the French village of Liverdun

Liverdun is definitely one of the hidden gems of France. This small beautiful French medieval village in the agglomeration of Nancy is worth a visit when exploring the Lorraine region. So, let’s get started with giving you our tips to visit liverdun to make the most of your time there.

How to reach Liverdun?

  1.  By car: 30 minutes from Nancy
  2. By train: the easiest way to go to Liverdun is from Nancy. It is a 12 minutes trip that costs 8 euros for both way. Otherwise, you can also take the train from Metz; but, there is a connection in Frouard and it costs, around 24 euros for both ways.

What to do in Liverdun?

1. Go around the village on foot through its beautiful small alleys. Once you arrive in the center of Liverdun, near each monument there is a QR code that you can scan. As a result, you get a detailed itinerary of the sites to visit: Place de la Fontaine, l’Hôtel de Camilly, Saint Peter church, the lavatory and more!

2. Go for a walk and then have a picnic along the river. Also, while there, you can find a small park nearby!

3. Visit Corbin castle for a magnificent view on the Moselle river.

What to eat there?

Liverdun is known for its Madeleines, small sponge cakes with a distinct shell shape with various flavors. Above all, they are divinely delicious since they are some of the best in all of France! In fact, you can buy some from the shop “Les Véritables Madeleines de Liverdun”, near the train station. Moreover, they also have great beer from around the region as well as souvenirs.

Restaurants in Liverdun have very specific opening hours and those differ from each other’s times. Unfortunately, most of them are closed on Sundays and/or Mondays. During other days, they close at 1.30-2 pm but then they reopen from 6 pm to 9-9.30 pm.  Therefore, if you are planning to have lunch or dinner there don’t forget to check the restaurant’s timetables!
