Top things to do in Thassos Island

Explore Limenas, Thassos Town

Limenas is the main town of Thassos. You can discover it on foot. You will find there many shops and delicious restaurants. It is very lively especially at night when the pubs open and everybody is out! And Its old fishing port is so charming!

Here is a hidden gem in Limenas: if you keep walking straight after the old fishing port, you will find a small beach with really small white pebbles. It is absolutely amazing! There is also a beach bar there called “Karnagio beach Cafe Bar”  where you can find drinks and some snacks.

From there, there are small stairs that will lead you to the ancient ruins of Thassos and a magnificent panoramic view on the Aegean Sea!

The sunset from up there is stunning!

Explore Panagia village

Panagia is a lovely village located only 12 minutes by car from Limenas. It is a traditional beautiful Greek village with picturesque streets and homes!

Next to the bridge, there is a natural water fountain that comes from Ipsarion Mountain, the highest peak on Thassos (1204m). The local  myth says that if a man drinks from this fountain, he will get crazy and marry a woman from Panagia! Panagia is the Greek word for the Virgin Mary whose celebration is on August 15. On this day, big celebrations are held in the village.

Visit Archangel Michael Monastery

Archangel Michael Monastery is an Orthodox monastery located 33 Km from Limenas. It is built on a cliff and has a breathtaking panoramic view. It is such a quiet and peaceful place in Thassos.

Make the tour of the island by car or motorbike

Thassos is a small island full of wonderful places and beaches; therefore, you can tour it with various stops to explore it in one or several days. You will also find along the way, small wooden tents and benches with breathtaking views so make sure to have time to make some stops.

Watch the sunset from Limenas

There is nothing like watching the sunset in Limenas after a beautiful day at the beach!

Watch the sunset from Skala Sotiros

Skala Sotiros is a great place to end your day. Next to the beach bars, a delightful walk will lead you to the marina and the fishing port.

Go on a boat tour

While walking by the old fishing port of Limenas, you will find many kiosks where you can buy tickets for the boat tours. It is recommended to book your place one to three days before the trip. You can book a half-day tour or a full day tour with barbecue on board. The boats go around the island so you will enjoy various landscapes. They also have beautiful swimming stops where cars can’t reach. We booked the full day boat trip; however, we felt that it was too long (almost 10 hours even though the planned arrival was 2 hours before the actual time) and we preferred the land tour of the island.

Beaches we loved on the Island

Marble beach

Did you know? Thassos Island exports marble to all over the world! Marble beach is a very unique place; there is no sand or pebbles but only marble with crystal blue waters! It is definitely a must visit when in Thassos.

Pachis beach

Pachis beach is surrounded by pine trees that form sort of a natural shade! We loved the chill vibes in this beach bar that is organized with sunbeds and swing chairs. There is also a delicious fish taverna right next to it.

Aliki beach

Aliki beach is formed by two gulfs and is famous for its clear green blue waters.

Golden beach

Golden beach earned its name from its clean golden sand. In fact,it is a huge 3 Km long bay;  making it the largest beach on the island! It is ideal for families since children can play safely along the shore.

Psili Ammos beach

Psili Ammos is a beautiful beach with white sand and blue waters.

Skala Sotiros

The beach bars in Skala Sotiros are tranquil and have comfy sunbeds, hammocks, and swing chairs.

Giola Lagoon

Giola Lagoon is one of the most famous attractions of Thassos. It is a natural rocky pool with clear waters. In order to reach it, you have to walk a tough road for 2 Km. However, we strongly believe that there are much more worth visiting places in Thassos.
